Rise of the Phoenix: Bracknell Phoenix Crowned Single A Champions

After a successful recruitment drive last season, we entered the off-season with enough players to consider forming a second team. Following a club-wide vote, a new team was born—the Phoenix, rising from the embers of our selections.

Our journey began with our first game of the season, an away match in Kent. With only seven players available, we had to call on others to join us on our travels, but this marked the start of our incredible 8-game unbeaten streak!

We finished our regular season with a commanding 18-6 record, securing our place in the playoffs.

In our first knockout game, we faced the Cambridge Royals. Despite a slow start, we battled our way to a hard-fought victory. Our next challenge was against Guildford Godcats, who were eager for revenge after we beat them 4-0 during the regular season. But the Phoenix were unyielding, mercying Guildford to secure a spot in the finals weekend.

The semi-final pitted us against the Cornish Claycutters, who matched our intensity from the first pitch. They surged ahead with a 6-0 lead going into the 3rd inning, but our never-give-up mentality kicked in, and we clawed our way back to a 10-10 tie, pushing the game into extra innings. We scored 3 runs in the final inning and delivered a stellar defensive performance, allowing no runs to seal the win!

The Single A Championship Game

The weather couldn’t dampen our spirits on the day of the championship. We started strong, and everything seemed to click. By the end of the 3rd inning, we were up 12-5. Milton Keynes made a push to close the gap, but our defense held firm. Staying composed in the final innings, we clinched the victory 17-13, winning with half an inning to spare.
